Kings Farthing

Day two of the Catweazle weekend and we were off to Kings Farthing - The home of the Collingfords in the second series of Catweazle.

Here is the house, with the tower. The clock and spire were sets that were added for the series.

Some inside shots of the house. These rooms were used for filming

The Mantlepiece seen in the show

 The often seen staircase

The spot where Catweazle tried to return to his own time by jumping in the water..... didn't work - "jumped in, bounced out bone dry"

 The rear of the house

Cedrics bedroom

A fake wall was constructed just to the right of the right hand window, and behind this was the "secret passage" to the dungeon.

Moray Watson (Lord Collingford) gives a talk about his life.

Geoffrey takes us on a brief tour around the house

Time to go, Moray and Geoffrey leave Kings Farthing

CATWEAZLE

So this is why were are really here... to see Catweazle. Catweazle was a children's television series broadcast in the early 1970's in Australia, made by the BBC. There were two series of 13 episodes each. The lead role was played by Geoffrey Bayldon an accomplished and very prolific character actor.

Each year the Catweazle Fan Club run an event in Horsley and East Clandon in England. and Geoffrey is their special guest.

This year, I traveled to the event and this is what I saw:

Bridges and Ghosts

Off for a walk along the Thames today. On our way out we did a geocache linked with the previously mentioned fake TARDIS outside Earl's Court tube. We sat in a pleasant park to write the log where we saw some trees:

And some upsy daisies - no pontipines though

Walking toward Tower Bridge to go to the bridge exhibition the bridge is an imposing (and instantly recognizable) sight being one of London's most famous landmarks.

The bridge can raise to let boats through and this was originally accomplished with steam engines. Here is one of the engineers (surprisingly a wombat) tending to the engine.

We then climbed the bridge (ok went up in a lift) and walked along the upper walkways enjoying the view

Late in the day one of us decided to go on a ghost walk. Last time he did this I managed to stay at home, this time however I tagged along. It was ok though because we traveled there by Tube and wombats like being underground.....

We started here a Monument Tube station, near the site of the Fire of London and walked for 2 hours listening to stories of headless ghosts, tall bankers, ghostly cats, organs that play themselves while dismantled and many others. Here are a few pictures:

A church that was bombed in World War 2 and was converted into the garden you see here with the old ruined walls providing a surround

The Bank of England, with it's collection of ghostly apparitions

The remains of the City Wall of Londinium

And the remains of a Roman Fort

Our guide was very good and even gave us two songs as part of the walk!

Tomorrow we meet Catweazle .... more soon!
