Monuments and Romans

Off to see some  monuments and landmarks today. On our way to the tube station we saw this "landmark" and waited patiently for it to "dematerialize". We waited in vain, realizing that it was not a real TARDIS
Our first stop was Pudding Lane - which history records as the origin of the Great Fire of London.
Near pudding lane is a Monument to the Great Fire. Here are some pictures
Inside the monument you can climb to the top..... there were stairs..... 311 of them.... they went UP!
At the top you could see all of London. Here I am looking toward Tower Bridge and the Tower of London


And below is the SHARD loved by some as a striking example of modern architecture and disliked by others.
Our visit to the Monument over, we went back down the stairs... did I mention there were 311 of them ! and walked to the Guild Hall where below ground under the gallery is the remains of a Roman ampitheatre. Here are some of the ruins. The excavated ruins were part of the entrance to the ampitheatre.
